The
author had an unusual range of experience in the "Forgotten War" of
Korea. He spent his first months as Artillery Intelligence Officer at Brigade
Headquarters before assuming responsibilities as a Gun Position Officer in charge
of a troop of 25 Pounder Artillery pieces and an unusual collection of men. Less
than two months later he took command of the Troop and became Forward Observation
Officer with the forward infantry company of 1st Battalion R22eR--the famous Van
Doos and, for a short period with a company of the Netherlands' Battalion. These
have provided a unique range of the emotional, tragic and humorous experiences
that form these "Memories." |
