Canadian civic leader presents

Veterans with a special “gold

HooJung Jones is a proud Canadian of Korean birth who co-authored and published the book, Canadians Our Heroes, with the late Thomas Sommers. She also is the associate webmaster of the Korea Veterans Association of Canada. Hoojung is very active in civic affairs in the Hamilton and Toronto area and has several commendations from Canadian government officials for her important work.

Message from HooJung Jones

It is great that Canada and Korea have won several gold medals.

Every time the Canadian and Korean flags are displayed at the Olympic podium, we sing the National Anthem.

The True North strong and free!

Il sait porter la croix!

If many of you did not fight serving Canada during the Korean War, these young Korean athletes would not be free to compete and win the Gold medals.

The true gold medallists are the Veterans who fought during the Korean War and in UN peace keeping.

Each time the Canadian and Korean National Anthems play at the podium, we salute you and send our sincere thanks to you, from the bottom of our hearts!

We are very proud of all of you and you should be very proud of yourselves.

As young men and women you delivered the GOLD medal to Korea sixty years ago:

Free to live,

Free to compete,

Free to win,

Free to be welcomed in our native land, Canada!

God Keep our land glorious and free!!

Et ta valeur, de foi trempée!!

Editor’s Note : We are certain that Koreans who are now citizens of other nations that also provided military assistance or other support to the Republic of Korea during the Korean War feel much as YouJung Jones does, with respect to the service of the Korean War Veterans in the lands where they now live. They all earned "the Gold."
