Soper, President KVA Prairie Region (2000-2003), presents a plaque of appreciation
to Jack Shields of Unit #21, for his efforts on behalf of KVA Canada and all Canadian
Korean War veterans in obtaining the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (
Korea
).
The presentation took place at the Unit #21 Honours & Awards dinner,
26
October 2002 .
Jack, then a Member of Parliament, along with the late Bill Kempling, MP,
obtained signatures on a petition from all Members of Parliament and the Senate
which was then presented to the Governor-General. Approval for the CVSM (K) followed. |

larger than life-size bronze statue depicting a Canadian Korean War
infantryman in action was unveiled on 25 April 2003 at the
Museum of the Regiments, Calgary, Alberta.
